DALLAS — An ice storm that closed Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport left thousands of people without electricity during freezing conditions.
Spokesman David Magana says DFW Airport reopened after being closed more than two hours Tuesday. Crews cleared ice from the runways.
American Airlines spokesman Tim Smith says about 800 flights were canceled at DFW, as part of 1,400 cancellations systemwide.
Oncor (ON’-kor) reported more than 20,000 customers lost electricity statewide. Nearly half of the utility’s outages were in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where schools canceled classes.
Schools in Arlington, where the Steelers and the Packers play on Sunday in the Super Bowl, also closed. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello says media activities Tuesday at Cowboys Stadium will go on as scheduled.
Lubbock, with snow and temperatures in the single digits, also canceled classes.
