FAYETTEVILLE—Valentines Day weekend is big business in the USA and business this year is good.
The National Retail Federation is predicting that Americans are expected to spend close to $15.7 billion over this weekend for the big day on Monday. The Federation predicts there is going to be a 12.8 percent increase in Valentines’s sales from last year. The average person is expected to spend around $116.21 cents.
Fayetteville resident Marcus Seals bought flowers for his wife, which he likes to send to her while she is at work.
“Oh, makes me feel great, seeing them at home,” said Seals. “When I come home, if she is happy, I’m happy.”
A further breakdown of the sales figures nationwide:
Jewelry: $3.5 billionRestaurants, $3.4 billionFlowers $1.7 billionClothes: $1.6 billionCandy: $1.5 billionGreeting Cards: $1.1 billion
The National Retail Federation said gift cards are the most popular option for gifts on Valentines Day with more than 52 percent of sales.
