Natalie Munroe blog has causes job suspension with pay.
The Natalie Munroe blog has stirred controversy over the Pennsylvania school teacher’s First Amendment rights. Munroe defends her insulting blogposts about her students and states, “I don’t think I did anything wrong,” according to ABC News . Monroe used the name “Natalie M” and never disclosed the name of the school within the posts.
The Central Bucks East High School teacher has maintained a blog for over a year describing her feelings towards her students. Munroe’s blog Includes statements like, “A complete and utter jerk in all ways,” “although academically okay your child has no other redeeming qualities,” “I hear the trash company is hiring,” and “There’s no other way to say this, I hate your kid,” according to ABC News.
Monroe has been suspended from her job, with pay, over these disrespectful posts. According to Bucks County Courier Times, district officials say Munroe could be dismissed. However, attorney Steve Rovner says there is no foundation for firing her.
Monroe’s attorney argues that she was within her First Amendment rights to freely express herself. In addition, Monroe’s school district does not have an internet policy deterring teachers from blogging about their students. “Until the school district decides what to do with her, her life is in limbo,” Rovner said, according to ABC News .
