Midnight riders

I remember my first midnight launch. It was Halo 3 at a Gamestop in the Merced Mall. I was very excited. In the car was two of my cousins, my friend, and my wife. When we got to Merced (I lived a good 30 miles away) it was 10:30. There was a small group so we got out of the car and headed toward the building.

Two guys passes us up going to their car and one looked at me and said, “Hey, they have sold out”. My cousins and I laughed. They must have thought you can buy the game, not have it pre-ordered.

The small crowd actually have a small group of people that were from my town that I had knew. So, sitting and talking, the excitment was building up the closer it got to 12:00. A gamestop worker came out and told us to line up. I jumped in line and looked at my phone’s time. 11:00 (Around that time) After 40 minutes of waiting someone tried to start a Halo chant. No one followed her. lol

At 11:45 someone said, “Whoa, look at that crowd”. Behind us there was a massive line streaching to the end of the mall.

At 11:50, a guy in front of me showed his friend a pic of the Halo line in New York. Holy ****. The guy behind me was telling his friend that his friend in another town texted him and was already playing it. He called him up to call his bluff.

At 12:00 we got in and I grabbed what I pre-ordered and headed home. That night was exciting.

Midnight 2.

ODST. Heading out I was yet again excited. My cousin, brother-in-law, wife and sister went out with me. My cousin brought his DS so we watched him play. A drunk, hobo, came by and made us laugh by swearing he had pre-ordered this game as well.

Someone made a rasict comment and a fight almost happend as well. Some halo timelines and characters were being talked about in the groups around me. Gamestop workers came out and passed out drinks, candy, and pizza.

After finally getting ODST, we headed home to play it. Kind of exciting.

I was suprised to hear Gears of War 2 had a midnight. I missed that one.

Midnight 3

Modern Warfare 2. I wasn’t really wanting to go to this one but my brother-in-law pursuaded me and my wife, sister, him, and I headed again to the Merced Mall. This time we could wait inside. They have food and drinks and had a tournament going. This midnight was kind of boring. I watched the tournament and got in line when it was time. The excitment started building up by the time I got my pre-order. Went home and played it. (duh) Not really exciting.

Midnight 4.

Mass Effect 2. This one was boring. Aside from my cousin driving and getting pulled over by a cop, nothing was out of the ordinary. I went to sleep when I got home. Believe me though, I played the **** out of it the next day.

Midnight 5

Halo Reach. Nope. Wasn’t going. I was tired of standing in line and waiting 2 hours to get a game and coming home tired. I was not going.

Then my Brother-in-law, called and really wanted me to go. (Sigh) Fine, I said. So only him and I went. I was cold. My wrists and one leg froze up and actually had hurt for a week after. We got there late and the line was already massive. My wife called and I talked to her for a while. All of a sudden the line got really short. I though people went into the store.

Nope. Turns out while I was on the phone, a Gamestop worker divided lines. My group had to go on the other side. So the worker came out a second time and everyone who didn’t hear him (Me) started going to the other side of the building. I was suprised and annoyed that people actually started running past us, pushing their way closer into the line. That put me and my In-law farther back. It was 1:00 when I got the game. (Every other midnight I grabbed my copy between 12:00 and 12:15.) Going home I was annoyed and hurting. One of my favorite games but my very worst midnight launch.

Now this whole year, I’m taking my car the next day, walking in, getting my pre-order, and walkin out. ‘Nuff said.

What about you guys? Midnighters?
