STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — It wasn’t a nice Groundhog Day morning to have crawl out of his solar-paneled winter home to make a prediction about spring, but Staten Island Chuck said winter will be over in two weeks.
Held by his old buddy Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Charles G. Hogg announced his findings shortly before 7:30 a.m.
The prediction echoed that of Punxatawney Phil, who also said an early spring is on the way.
In 2009, Chuck bit the mayor, causing him to start wearing heavy gloves.
Chuck has since tried to make nice, even recording a greeting for the mayor before his State of the City speech last month. But Bloomberg said “I never forget, I never forgive.”
If the groundhog does not see a shadow, winter will begin to recede and the next six weeks — at which point spring arrives — will be milder.
