Georgetown Cupcake has created a new cupcake to benefit the Smithsonian’s National Zoo.

The honey-banana flavored cupcake is called “Gone Bananas!” It’s on sale through March 4 at the cupcake stores in Georgetown and Bethesda. All proceeds will benefit the zoo’s conservation programs.

The zoo also is being featured in the season two premiere of the TLC TV show, “DC Cupcakes” airing Feb. 25. As part of the show, Georgetown Cupcake presented the zoo with a life-size gorilla sculpture made from hundreds of cupcakes.

Animal keepers also made “gorilla cupcakes” to feed the primates. They were made from bananas, primate biscuits, gelatin and water and were made to resemble red velvet cupcakes.
