For those who have participated in past events in Tampa, Florida, it is commonplace to scream like a thousand pirates who have just discovered a treasure trove. After all, it is a pirate invasion.

The traditional event begins with a Pirate Invasion that involves the arrival of parade members of the event, all donned in traditional pirate ensembles.

They disembark from their vessels, exchange niceties, clink goblets, and talk about gold their gold finds along their perilous journey.

Then, they gather together for a 3.8 mile journey along the historic Bayshore Blvd. and share their bounty with parade goers along the route.

The Gasparilla 2011 parade makes it way to downtown Tampa and the festivities continue with music, dancing, face-painting, contests, live entertainment, you name it.

Gasparilla 2011 is Tampa, Florida’s version of Mardi Gras in New Orleans, Louisiana. Although not as large, it is just as exciting.
